NIkon is on a Roll..Here’s Some New Glass.

.
These new lenses promise to bring the famed Nikon lens line up to date and leave room for the future.

Quite honestly, there has been one lens in the Canon line that we love to death, because of what it can do. The 24 mm tilt/shift lens gives us perspective control like nothing else.
Now if you’ve ever shot with a view camera, you already understand whit tha can mean in a hand held DSLR.
There is something called the Scheimpflug Rule (i guess it’s not a law yet) which allows you to change the plane of the film or sensor to shift your subject plane.

OK I don’t want to lose you. It’s a unique, yet versatile beautiful piece of glass and lens engineering.

Now Nikon has introduced an updated version and I can stay in the same camera line. Big news.

Plus in the zoom lens world, 2 new lenses have been added with VRII, giving you up to 4 MORE slower shutter speeds to internally controlled vibration. Cool.
If Nikon decides to add vibration reduction to every zoom lens, you’ve got some pretty strong arguments to get in line with that brand.

Geotagging is up next.

Cheers!

A Place for Everything and Everything In It’s Place – Part 1: Lowepro

The right tool for the right job.
The right lens for the right shot.
And of course the right bag to put it all in. Sure, I’ll admit that the number of bags sitting around here almost equal the number of camera bodies.
Well…maybe not that many.
But it IS critical to have the right bag to carry your equipment depending on the shoot. It’s an access, weight, comfort thing.

Lowepro began as a camera bag company catering to the needs of backpackers. That same experience continues to translate to todays shooters.

Personally we dig the SlingShot 300 for crowded shooting venues such as clubs, This new FastBack does a great job of combining the same attributes for access, while giving increased support on the back for carrying around.

The Flipside is one I’m trying to figure out. I know what it’s used for and how.But flipping my long lens to the front of my waist doesn’t do a thing for me. I guess that’s why they make so many bags. Something for everyone.

So go to your local camera store, bring some gear you may use on a shoot, load up these puppies and see what you think.
that is truly the best way to see what’s right. This video shows you a good look at the bags. But only you know what fits right and serves your needs. Love the internet but some things you just have to touch.

We’ll be back tomorrow with another video from PMA. Hey, there were a lot of things to look at!

Gung Hay Fat Choy!

Happy New Year in the Year of the Rat! Officially it starts Feb. 7th, 2008.
To help celebrate, let’s look at some of the things going on in the world of Chinese photography.

Start making your travel plans.
FotoFest 2008 Photography from China, 1934 – 2008 Photography from China, 1934 – 2008
March 7 – April 20, 2008 in Houston, Texas

“Departing from most contemporary art programs on China, the FOTOFEST2008 exhibitions and programs will present both historical and contemporary work. The historical component features three exhibitions showing works from 1934 – 1975 that have never been shown outside of China before. Seven contemporary programs and exhibitions present work from the late 1980’s to 2008 – classical and mixed media work by Chinese artists addressing religion, ethnicity, gender, urban transformation, identity, globalization, and the inter-relationship of current art to classical Chinese art and history. All the exhibitions are by Chinese artists working in mainland China. Much of the work to be presented by FotoFest will be seen outside of China for the first time.

Accompanying the CHINA exhibitions, there is a presentation on the evolution of 20th century Chinese photography at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston with two leading Chinese scholar-curators, March 12, 2008.”
