Shhhhhhh…Can We Keep This Between Us?

I’m now about to reveal a secret. A photographic secret. A truly fun secret.
A birthday party time secret.

You’ve done the prom parties, the costume parties, the dinner parties, the pile-into-a-limo parties and party.
Been to most of em.

Try this on for size: a fashion shoot party.
Give all of your guests the star treatment, and especially the guest of honor.

Here’s how it works: Continue Reading »

Carrie Bradshaw Is To Shoes, As Photographers Are To……..

BAGS!
Gear Bags. Working Bags. Ditty Bags. Travels Bags.
And rightfully so.
Like the we always say, the Right tool for the Right job. Or bag in this case.
Photographic bags can look like they have all that you need, space, pockets, dividers support online, in the store, or the videos we present, but it’s when you use it in action that the rubber meets the road, so to speak.

Now, if storage is the issue, there is no issue. You know what will fit and what won’t.

It’s when the bag is in use, that’s the true test.
If you work your gear with a bag over your shoulder like an event or wedding photographer, you’ll be touching that stuff all day.
So you’ll find out pretty quick what feels right.
Weight distribution, access to the most used items, speed, and yep, comfort.
You’ll be wearing this pup all day. And unlike Jimmy Choos or Manolo Blahniks, fashion DOES NOT come before function here.
My female friends make do for the look.
Working photogs don’t. Or can’t.

Thats’ why we use the gear we discuss and ask the workers around the country for input.

Anne and Dan Almasy
are wedding photogs based in Altanta and are constantly booked. With good reason. They are fantastic photographers. Check out the work.
Because they are constantly booked, they work their gear like it should be worked. Hard.
Their working bag of choice? The BODA bag. Continue Reading »

Here They Come…Faster Than A Speeding Bullet…Able to Upgrade Your Photos in a Single Bound

Look! Up in the Sky! It’s Canon and Nikon!. With new DSLRs for you to desire, covet, wait for.
Not surprised are you?
It’s almost time for Photokina, the every 2 year trade show in Cologne, Germany. This is where the manufacturers introduce the latest gear, which may be ready for the coming buying season: the HOLIDAYS!

But will the consumer come along for the ride? As the global economy has drained the enthusiasts disposable income, a new camera purchase may be on the back burner.
What do you think?

The folks at Canon and Nikon though, have just done some pre-show work with the announcements of two new DSLRs.
Yep,The big boys are rolling out some solid doubles but we know the swings to the fences are still to come.

[photopress:EOS_50D_FRT_w_EF_S_17_85mm_IS_USM_001.jpg,full,centered]
Canon came in first with the 50D weighing in with 15.1 mega pixel, new processor, ISO setting from 100-12800.
Available in Oct. for about $1300.

[photopress:353_25446_D90_front.jpg,full,centered]
Now Nikon made an interesting move with the D90 replacing the D80. Duh.
Here they went for 12.3 mega pixels and added a 24fps HD video mode. Now, there is a great use for that huge 3 inch screen. What about the sound though? Can’t add a mic. Although you are using high end Nikon glass.
DX sensor and about $1000. ISO from 100 to 6400 within an expanded range. Uses the same old batteries, thank goodness, so you won’t have to buy those again. SD cards so you can add that Eye-Fi card you’ve been thinking about.

What was our favorite new item that was introduced?

While We Wait for the New Shows….

The galleries are closed.
The owners are perhaps dipping their toes in the sand and sea. Like you probably are.
The new work is waiting to be hung and viewed, once we all return to our routines.

When I was a kid, this last weekend meant the final gasp of vacation, school supplies had to be bought, summer events were almost done, camp was coming to a close, and with that, the friends that you made in the summer were going back to their routine. Never did see Laurie from somewhere in Pennsylvania again.

But now the good news.

The fall will bring some crazy Continue Reading »
