Delkin Shows Off A Little at PMA 2009

Our friends at Delkin were winning awards and showing off some pretty cool goods at PMA this time around.
The ImageRouter lets you upload 4 cards per unit at one time (they can be daisy-chained we heard), and has special software for the PC folks, allowing you to back-up, burn and file your images as they come in..
Don’t worry MAC folks, it also works woth any image management program , such as Lightroom. And The matching MAC software is on it’s way.
Perfect for the wedding photog or the event shooter. It can’t lug the cases, but can do the heavy lifting of the on-site, back-up.

And if you have to secure your DSLR or video camera to a smooth surface, like a car, the Fat Gecko may be something you’d be interested in.
Yes, we saw the demo in person, but still, our gear would have to be majorly secured and strapped, perhaps in addition to this unit, for us to breath easy.
Just erring on the side of caution.
Or we’ll try it with your camera. Deal?

Honl Light Modifiers and RayFlash Ringlight – A Video Demo

While we trooped the floors of a slightly smaller PMA last week, there were a ton of products to still check out and we’ll be giving you a look at some of what we felt was the best of the bunch.

Coincidentally, David Honl, photographer & inventor, was on our flight to Vegas and we had a good chance to chat about the products he created, out of need. Necessity truly is the mother of invention.

Plus another look at a portable, self contained ringflash-
RayFlash, we had reviewed before, with a slight improvement that helped change our opinion of the unit.

You can go to Expoimaging for more info, but check out you local camera store to get your hands on the product before you buy.

PMA 2009 – Done and Done!

Our time in Vegas came to a close today. We left with some tired feet, but with a TON of video of new products you should know about. Plus some real-world reviews are on their way, in the coming weeks.

There was an added event, which is where this photo was taken. More later in this post.

Here is some top-line product stuff:

Spotting some trends out there, like GPS coming on strong, and the scanning of your old negs, slides and prints, coming on strong , especially with 2 companies coming out on top. Getting your memories into your digital life is something we’ll all have to do.
One of them, ScanCafe, has Pulitzer price winning photographer David Hume Kennerly on their board.
He is not just a board member, he’s a client.

We were very happy to do a video interview with him, and he shared some incredible images of the Obama family moving into the Whitehouse, and behind the scenes of the inauguration. Seeing photographs of the toys get loaded into the Whitehouse was awesome.
This man has had the most amazing access for years, and his master’s eye brings a series of photos that you have to see.
We’ll be sharing some here before the book comes out.

Gorillapod came out with a new heavy duty flexible tripod, and there will be a real world test with a pro DSLR and a
big ole piece of glass; maybe 80-200 2.8.

PMA -2009: Day 1 (or is it 2?)

OK, it’s the first official day of the PMA photography event, complete with 2 floors of booths, displays, teaching seminars, and schmoozing. Yesterday was all of the sneak previews.

There we some meetings we had showing coming products that we can’t say a word about yet, some with products that are just about to hit the stores, and some that have been out but we somehow missed them.
We have a ton of video shot and ready to edit and post, but we want to give you a preview taste. Yum.

So here is the second day of pics of just a few of the things we saw:

There are NEW HOLGA CAMERAS!!

Sorry, was that our outside voice?

Well, we were completely jazzed to see some 3D and Panoramic 120 Film Holgas, plus some new lines that are limited editions.

The Crumpler folks did not disappoint with a new line of sweet bags with a “silent velcro” feature. Awesome for those quiet moments. (this is just a pick of some wallets with the classic logo)

PMA – 2009: Gonna Get All Gear-y On Ya For A Little Bit

Hanging in Las Vegas for a few days, checking out what new equipment may be coming down the line for us.
PMA or Photographic Marketing Association’s yearly convention is taking place at the LV Convention center, bringing out most of the major manufacturers to debut new products and show some prototypes for the pro/retail and consume markets.

We spent day one gambling all of our money away and selling off our gear to pay off the rest of the stay.

No. We didn’t. Really.

It’s a little quieter in Sin City these days, economic woes being what they are.
And we are very curious to see the turnout for this industry event.
On the first afternoon, we got a Sneak Peak (capitalized because that’s what the event was called) at some pretty cool new stuff.

From some amazing new software from Tessara, that will be included in some future cameras that will allow you to a little age reversal, in-camera. More on that later.

[photopress:SKloupe_group_SK2_products_medium2.jpg.jpeg,full,alignright] From a company called LensPen, a new sensor cleaner that made total sense to us. Not only does it have an LED lighting system that lets you see what’s on the sensor, but also has a cutout, so you can work on the dust culprit with a special pen, while you are watching the sensor.

The folks at ThinkTank have a new way of working on location, this time with a pop-up, fold-flat solution, for working on your computer in the field. These designers make some great workers.

[photopress:Pixel_Sunscreen_2.jpg,full,centered]

GPS, one of our favorite subjects is coming on strong, with 2 solutions being shown today by Jobo, for use with ANY camera, giving you location data plus points of interest.
[photopress:_DSC0035_2.jpg,full,centered] Jobo unit designed for a hot shoe

Plus a small company called Foolography, using a tiny Bluetooth receiver to get any GPS units data, and embedding it into the EXIF file.

[photopress:_DSC0017.jpg,full,centered] mini rec. for Nikon

At Delkin, we saw one o the shows winning entries, with the Fat Gecko, a suction device that will put your camera where you want it. Incredibly strong.
