ShiftCam / SnapStudio Brings a Fresh Take on the Ring Light For Mobile Creators

One of my favorite companies that create products in the mobile space is ShiftCam.
Utilizing the mag safe feature, they have created a system giving you the tools you need to make the content you post in an accessible, and well built gear set. They also make a set of high quality lenses which can be attached to your phone via an adaptor that works on all phones. The full monty!

OK, it may feel like  a commercial but I am a huge fan! (vid was from an Indigogo campaign, but lays it all out!)

One of their more recent products is the SnapStudio Light, that you saw in the video.

Super versatile, and packed with the features you will definitely use.

To start, the LED light has a unique shape as you can see, as a rectangle, matching the shape of your phone. ( full specs are below)

It is USB-C chargeable, and has a range of intensity and color temp adjustments so you can match the scene needs perfectly.

On each of the 4 sides of the rectangular light is a ¼-20 thread, so shooting in Portrait or Landscape gives you the same lighting qualities, plus you can attach it to a tripod, add a mic, seen above

Speaking of a tripod, it comes with a color matching tripod of about 6 “ which allows for a right height for a table top or using it closed as hand held grip.

The main feature of this “ring” light is its mag safe connector to your smartphone.
It is placed in just the right place within the light, and Snap has figured out the right magnet strength for a whole range of phones.

I’ve connected and iPhone 14 Pro, and a Samsung Note, and they both stick securely.
( yes, separately)

And the post with the mag safe circle ROTATES! So if you want to make sure you are recording with the higher quality rear camera, you are good to go. Of course if you want to have your subject see the screen, the rotation allows that.

Well built with high quality materials, as the rest of their line, highly recco this light.
Plus it fits easily into a camera bag.

Add in the Snap collapsible tripod and you get a standing height Vlogging set-up, that packs small and plays big, as they say.

There is one other tool I’ve added into the situation:
I had been looking at ways to shoot gear overhead, and after seeing the many options out there, decided on this Ulanzi product.

The issue with recording overhead with a regular tripod is that you may get the tripod feet in the shot.

This tripod alternative has been designed with one leg having the ability to hook onto a table, while leaning into the overhead situation.
It also has a mag safe phone holder, and with the Snap Studio Light, the weight is great, and it all can shoot parallel to your flat table surface. The Ulanzi is adjustable for height, and can, like the Snap tripod, be used as a selfie stick, and both include a bluetooth remote so you don’t have to touch the rig.

Can I still say selfie stick? Think they are back with vloggers.

Anyway, this combo and versatility, make for a productive set of gear options, with the Snap Studio light at its core.
