Weekly Giveaway: Save time/money at the airport
This may be the most non-camera related item we’ve ever given away, but trust us on this: we use it ALL the time.
As airlines charge you for everything imaginable (including blankets and pillows) the worst part for us, are the baggage charges: $25 for the first and $35 for the second. Ouch.
But the overweight charges are the ones that hit you the hardest
50 Lbs is the main per bag allowance and over that, get ready to pay about $100 extra for 51-99lb.
(yep, that 1 lb over can be costly)
We do have our carry-on and most critical gear is with us at all times. Plus the TSA is cool with it.
You should get a copy of this document, print it out and carry copies in your camera bags.
So we thought you may like to have one of the tools, the Balanzza which we we use before we start any trip:
We weigh out our bags. There could be gear that, if the bag was lost, can be replaced.
We make our carry-on as efficient as possible.
Chargers, 2nd back up hard drive, back up card readers, batteries, extra cables , etc. we like to pack into the checked luggage.
The we hook up the strap from the Balanzza, turn it on, choose the right unit of measurement, (lbs or kilos)
and then lift up the bag.
It is a little like the weight lifting competitions on the Olympics, where you have to have it raised vertically for about 5 seconds for it to register. Then, instead of the 3 lights in the Olympics, the unit beeps and gives you the weight measurement.
Real easy to use, and it should save you from, repacking at the airport.
Now, some folks have said they found a variation of up to 4 lbs. on this, but we have never had an issue. We always look at the scales at the check-in.
So you probably know how this works:
A. you have to be a subscriber to the free Photoinduced.com weekly Newsletter
B. Open up the newsletter on Weds.
C. The instructions on how to enter the giveaway, will be in the Newsletter
All free, all good. Previous weeks winners of the camera lens mugs have been shipped and the flash drive will go out this week. Haven’t sent the entries to Random.org yet, but will shortly.
