Clyde Butcher: Fine Art photographer – working wet and walking swamps

The Annenberg Space for Photography has a current exhibit entitled ” Extreme Exposure: A Journey to Some of Earth’s Most Dangerous Environments”.
You know we are huge fans of this unique photographic experience in Los Angeles, and once you go and see all of the offering we know you will be too.
And for those that can’t make it, they have so much content on-line that you can enjoy a ton of material from the comfort of your computer.
This exhibit pays homage to those photographers who go out of the safe zone of the environment, quite literally, and bring back images to the world you may never see otherwise.

With a guest curator, Cristina Mittermeir, an award-winning photographer, conservationist and President of the International League of Conservation Photographers, the collection brings an intimacy to some of the harshest environments on the planet.

We had the chance to interview one of these photographers, Clyde Butcher, when the show opened, and if you are in Los Angeles this week, He’ll be speaking at the Annenberg on Thursday night for free. It appears sold out, but very often a seat will open up. Plus, they will post the lecture online at their site. Nothing like seeing this stuff in person though. Free, and $1.00 for parking.

Working primarily in the Florida Everglades, he takes his wife, a 65 lb. backpack of gear, and a vision, into the swampy environs and comes back with amazing black & white interpretations of a land that looks like time forgot.

Extreme Exposure will be available for viewing October 23, 2010 through April 24, 2011.
