Getting ready for the holidays…….
So the Friday after Thanksgiving in the states proved to be a busy one for retailers. Sales up 6% from last year.
And I was out there. Not at 5:00 AM. But I was checking to see what was flying out the doors in photography.
The consumer digital point-and-shoots had some amazing price breaks ……but not SOOO amazing it was a giveaway. 20% price breaks. Still not bad.
But when its a mail-in rebate…that still irks me.Heck, I’m buying the product, why put me through the rest?
And as we’ve said before, by picking up the previous models, you can save a bundle.
There will be more sales coming , you can be sure.
No, the big deals were on memory. Memory cards, hard drives etc. Good news for all.
Now you will see many memory cards with blowout prices but remember: most of them are not the fastest writers.
What do we mean?
It takes a little longer for the data to be written to the card slowing up your shooting a hair.
We saw some 2GB Sandisk SD cards at $2.97.
OK too good to pass up.
But at $30? Think about your usage and how you shoot. Costco had a 2GB Ultra II SD for $63. You decide.
And remember to BACK UP YOUR IMAGES!!!!!!!!
Get that external Hard Drive, back it all up. Twice. Burn your images to DVD.
As you gather with friends and family, these images are precious and have to be preserved.
I still have negs from when I was 8 years old.
I hope I still have the digital files in 20 years.
We recco the Delkin Gold DVDs and CDs for hard backup.
The most reliable drive we use is the G-Raid by G-Tech. You don’t have to go that high end , but just make sure you do a mirror backup ( back up to 2 drives).
And tomorrow is CYBER MONDAY: supposed to be the biggest day for on-line sales.
Get your orders in before your favorite gifting items are gone.
Now for the advanced amateur and pros-the most you can hope for are some end of month or year markdowns. But remember the memory.
And we were also out shopping for you, our readers. Should be a good month.
Cheers!
