The Photography Show (AIPAD) Is On!
Every year, we all have our favorite photo fairs, right?
After Paris-Photo, this is mine. The Photography Show
44 Galleries from all over the world come together in NYC, to show, and sell, the work of photographers from Dorothea Lange, to Cig Harvey and a ton of your favorites in between. PLUS, there are free talks by some of the smartest and most talented people in the world of photography. Click the link and check them, and maybe see you there!
Whether you collect photography, want to be collected, or just love photography, this show will hit all the marks (check all the boxes?)
Some of my all time favorite gallerists , like Howard Greenberg, are showing a broad selection of work, with a walk through both floors guaranteed to speak to your aesthetic.
Here is Mr, Greenberg discussing a photo with a collector.
As this was the first day, the impressions are fresh, and overall, I have been exposed to a whole new range of photographers and approaches.
Like Alma Haser, who has photographed twins, then created jigsaw puzzles combining both humans. And they are for sale!
Fotografiska is also there showing some great items for purchase from the Hip-Hop exhibit currently on display
A new B&W print from Gregory Crewdson series called, Eveningside at the Reflex Amsterdam gallery
from the MUUS collection, you can see a variety of prints from classic photographers, and also online
Sure, it’s not all serious and contemplative viewing, there is fun meet-ups!
Here is a new series of seemingly bucolic simple scenes of buildings that belie a very dark story behind each one, by Arne Svenson. Book coming next year from Robert Klein Gallery
An interesting note from some galleries was the one photographer only on display.
So go, look at photographs in real life, see the artistry in each piece, be tempted, maybe even start your collection, or add to the one you have.
Perhaps a book will be the purchase, and you will find a lot to choose from.
This is the pinnacle for many photographic artists. Is that you?
I have barely touched on all of the work you will see. I know I’ll be spending some solid time revisiting the booths.
Open from March 31st to April 2, at 415 5th ave, between 37th and 38th.
