The Reigning Master of Celebrity Photography – Annie Leibowitz

Sure there are others, but Annie Leibowitz is the undisputed, reigning leader in the world of celebrity portraits.
From her years shooting the creme de la creme in rock & roll, to her mastery capturing the essence of the most powerful people in the world, she is the best we have right now.

And we say “we” because she has spread her images to just about very venue, every publication, the top museums and galleries in the world. By doing so she has shared her vision with the collective “we”.

With 2 full length documentaries made at different focal points in her life, Ms. Leibowitz seems to be entering yet another segment of her career.
With the publication of the book” Annie Leibowitz At Work”, she has now pulled the curtain back and revealed her modus operandi. Plus gets into FAQ’s.

When an artist lets you into the back room at the magic show, so to speak, it usually signifies that they are moving on from that period.
Let’s see where she goes.

[photopress:41kEjOdom5L._SL500_AA240_.jpg,full,alignright] She has photographed most of the celebrities you’ll see on the Oscars on Sunday night, and there is a traveling show on Vanity Fair magazine, which gives an incredible comparison between the early years of the magazine, where Edward Steichen was a stalwart of the pub, to the current day incarnation, where Annie Leibowitz is the go-to photographer.

If the exhibit isn’t coming to your town, (LA is the only stop in the US) you can still catch the work in 2 separate volumes, Vanity Fair Portraits, or the preferred, but harder to find, exhibition catalogue.

Hmmmm… maybe some Annie goodies are in order for next weeks giveaway.
Is that something you might be interested in?
( just homage to one of my favorite lines in Entourage)
