Another Step For Canon – The New 5D Mark II Full Frame

And the parade of new gear continues….
Today Canon introduced the EOS 5D Mark II digital SLR.[photopress:Canon_5D_Mark_II_flash.gif,full,alignright]

The successor to the EOS 5D launched in 2005, Canon a full-frame CMOS sensor, HD video capture. In addition to capturing full-HD 16:9 video clips at 1,920×1,080 resolution, the 5D Mark II features a 21.1 megapixel full-frame 24x36mm CMOS sensor, a sensitivity range from ISO 50 to 25,600 and continuous shooting at 3.9 fps for an unlimited number of full-res JPEGs (to the capacity of the memory card) or 14 RAW images in a single burst when using a UDMA CF card.
Plus Face Detection.
Now the shutter life matches that of the Nikon D700 at 150,000 cycles, plenty for the prosumer.

The 5D Mark II employs a 3.0-inch Clear View LCD screen with 920,000-dot/VGA resolution (four times the pixel count of the EOS 5D’s 2.5-inch screen) and a high-magnification optical viewfinder with 98 percent coverage. The shutter durability of this DSLR was also increased to 150,000 cycles.

And the HD and SD video capture may be a new feature in all future DSLRs. First introduced with the Nikon D90, but this unit will have an input terminal for an external stereo mic. We know the difference sound makes in any video.

Compatible with Canon EF lenses, the EOS 5D Mark II is scheduled for November delivery and will be sold body-only for an estimated retail price of $2,699.

So we’re thinking; now that your DSLRs are adding HD video with top quality optics, should you lose your video cameras? Not a chance.

If we’re shooting stills, there is a DSLR in our hands. If we’re shooting video, crack open the video camera bag.
Right tool, right job.
The only time we’ve shot video with out still camera was to catch something on the fly.
The paparazzi will love it though. Faster upload to TMZ. Actually all photojournalists.
Just our opinion, though.

Now the ever popular G9 also got and upgrade to a G10 with over 14 megapixels and taking advantage of the new Digic 4 processor, an equivalent 28-140 mm zoom lens, plus RAW capabilities. Face detection and Fotonations brilliant face detection timer. Available in Oct. for about $599. Please Note- this number was just revised.

So, it’s almost time to buy…or wait…or buy…no wait!
Ok, buy it if you need it right now, but hold for awhile if you can til all the new gear gets announced and THEN make your choice.

A friend of ours just realized that by buying a DSLR model that was just replaced, he saved hundreds of dollars and it gave him all of he camera he’ll need.
Smart dude.
