What’s on your nightstand ?

I’ve not gonna lie to you…its been one heck of a week.

And I’m sure you all have had some crazy days too. But how do you unwind and chill at the end of the day?

Over in photoinduced central, there is nothing like a powerful book of photographs tempered with a mag to take the edge off.

This week the book of choice was the Phaidon volume of Francesca Woodman. This photographer has become one of the most talked about and studied photographers of the 20th century.
Her images reflect a classic painterly sensitivity , an edgy (still) composition style, to an insight into her soul, truly, when you realize that she started to photograph when she was only 13.

She took her own life at age 22.

No one was more shocked than I when i first found this out. Yes, it may color your perception. But try to just let the images wash over you. Then think about it.

Her work is something that touches your soul in a way that no matter where you were in your life, you will be transported to her world. Take a look. And google away. you’ll discover more.

OK, to lighten it up before turning out the lights, a new look at an old standby mag, SHUTTERBUG..
Honestly it used be a thick volume filled with ads and that was that. Check prices, see who has what, etc. Paper quality was pretty thin and who needed more?

Well they’ve changed it up to become a bit more mainstream. This past issue got me on a few articles and the subject range was eclectic. Perfect for my mood.

So there you have it.Now I didn’t say I craved light hearted fare: only that I wanted to change the current days events in the front of my brain.

What’s on your nightstand?

Cheers!
