Report on PhotoPlus Expo – Via YouTube – Gear, Software, Accessories – Part 4

As we close out our report on some of the best of PhotoPlus Expo 2006, we’d like to thank all of the manufacturers who allowed us to speak with them and videotape demos of their products.

The hope is that by seeing some of these products, you can make some judgements as to your next purchasing steps.

As we move into a bit more of the advanced amateur and profession arena,
There is some software you have got to check out:

Now necessity is the mother of invention, and I’ve found that the amount of space some programs take on my laptop are causing some serious storage issues. Not just the media, the program itself.

Took a look at IVIEW MediaPro and you should too.
As a matter of fact, here you go in this clip. I was so impressed that further questions added a second part of the video.Too cool.
And useful.

This is an asset management program that sits lite on the computer and accesses your media from any source an allows you to load in thumbnails until you need to do hard work.

OK, they can explain it better than I can. I am sold though. It’s my new asset management program. Works for me, see if it works for you. Travelling with a laptop, this is perfect.

The best part of this is that you can do a free 30-day trial. And you should. Before you commit your work to ANY system, make sure it works for you and the way your workflow operates. You have to get something. This one only uses 10MG of disc space. Yep you can even EMAIL this. But don’t. Buy your own copy.

This next gentleman first showed his MonsterPod at Photo Marketing Association in the spring. It was, he admits, a bit of a blob at that point. A prototype.
Well here is his product, cleaned up, production models in place, packaging and advertising all there. Bravo to the ingenuity and the hard work it takes to get any product to market, so we present MonsterPod by its inventor. Congratulations, sir.

Honestly not all of the products we saw made it to these YouTube clips. Not because they weren’t quality item but there were time limits. And some of the items have a more limited market.

A few of the items we saw and like were:
Chimera
– a new quick release ring frame for strobes, that makes travelling in a location with lightboxes a much easier, smoother operation.

IStock Photo
– a stock photo house, recently purchased by Getty Images, selling images for a low price but offering another outlet for your stock images. Heck I may buy some for this website.

As we were shooting on the floor (check the gallery) the range of color temp was huge.
So much so that the time spent at night correcting before we can post was way too long.
Enter the Expodisc. We’ve seen this at a few shows and wasn’t sure what we would need it for. Yes,my camera has a WB button and choices. This unit simplified my fast working.
Tried this unit at the booth, it worked, I bought. And saved a bunch of time at night filing the images in my hotel room.
If you do buy, make sure you get the size of you largest lens filter size. That way you can use with all of your lenses.

And one of the biggest line-ups of people waiting for an item: The Kodak booth was giving free sample of thier latest film stock.

Crazy..almost the whole of the Expo was geared to the digital world. And there were tons of people looking for film.

Tomorrow a recap, with a clean list of websites for you to click to get more info.

More reviews coming in the next weeks.

Congratulations to Tammy L. of Boulder CO. for being the 14th person to reply to the weekly giveaway email.
You should all check this out at your local camera dealer though. A great thing to have in the bag.
