Sony a6000: Focusing Faster Than a Speeding Bullet! LOOK! Up in the sky! It’s a…

…APS-C new camera from Sony!

At this point all we can do is drool over the stats: 11FPS! Claiming to be the world’s fastest AF performance at just 0.06 seconds.
A focal plane phase-detection AF sensor with an extremely wide autofocus coverage area – 179 focal points– that is teamed with high-precision contrast-detection AF. This potent combination allows the camera to accurately track and respond to a moving subject.

One of my main concerns on the NEX series was the AF contrast detection system, which, being used to optical veiwfinders, was a slight disconnect and took getting used to.

Problem solved.

And with a 24.3 MP sensor, this will rival a DSLR choice for the consumer moving up. ISO range of 100-25,600 for stills (thank you for that good low bottom ) and for video; 100-12,800. That should cover you.
So back to the fast focus 179 points! Phase detection was the domain of the Alpha series DSLR, and coupled with 25 point contrast detection feature should get you a good crisp image.
We know a lot of families want to capture the fast moving lives of everyone, including the sports minded. You miss a shot, you miss a lot.
And the articulated LCD ensures that those “above the crowd” shots are within your reach. I use that feature all the time. Once happened upon a crowd of folks included 2 very famous celebs. By reaching High and them down, I could watch the shot happen in the articulated screen.
Not a paparazzi, but some cool stuff to share with friends.

Sony knew that the weak spot was the lens selection. They’ve gotten some decent support from Zeiss, although I still like adding some Leica glass onto this series.

Outlined below, the E-mount family now includes 20 different models with several premium models from Carl Zeiss® and G Series Lenses:

• E 16mm F2.8
• E 20mm F2.8
• E 35mm F1.8 OSS
• E 50mm F1.8 OSS
• E 30mm F3.5 Macro
• E 24mm F1.8 ZEISS
• E 10-18mm F4 OSS
• E PZ 16-50mm F3.5 – F5.6 OSS
• E 18-55mm F3.5 – F5.6 OSS
• E 18-200mm F3.5 – F6.3 OSS
• E 18-200mm F3.5 – F6.3 OSS LE
• E PZ 18-200mm F3.5 – F5.6 OSS
• E 55-210mm F4.5 – F6.3 OSS
• E PZ 18-105mm F4 G OSS
• E 16-70mm F4 ZEISS OSS

• FE 35mm F2.8 ZEISS
• FE 55mm F1.8 ZEISS
• FE 24-70mm F4 ZEISS OSS

And of course,it has built in wi-fi, with a selection of about 10 apps, with the promise of more to come this spring.
And if you have an NFC device (near field ) just a touch will transfer your snappage to the smartphone.
I use an NEX 6 for street shooting and have programmed it with the apps I use regularly: smart control and flickr, as well as being able to transfer to my iPhone.
Sony, like many other manufacturers are very careful not to cannibalize their Pro Lines, and with the grand entrance of the 7r, the biggest difference is full frame.

How big is it? Assuming this is not a 10 ft tall womans’ hand, it is another compact wonder from Sony.

The price point will be a reasonable $650 for body only, and $800 with a 16-50 kit lens.
