Profoto Collapsible Reflectors: Buy your gear one time. Invest in the best.

If you know what to use collapsible reflectors for, you may already own at least one.

It’s probably a White on one side, Silver on the other, circular, and has a wrist twist to fold it into itself and put away in a circular pouch.

Profoto has come out with a line of reflectors that are some of the most well built I have used.DSC_0211

What’s different:profoto-reflectors-600x527

There are two solid handles allowing your assistant to direct the bounce of white, silver, gold, zebram or the absorption of light with black. Plus there is a translucent model, which will soften the light, allowing a mid day shoot with no hot contrast on your talent.

These quality handles have good grip, ergonomically smooth fit for the hands.

check the quality stitching. An important feature when you’re giving it some heavy wear.DSC_0209 Now the reflectors I’ve used in the past have lasted. For years. One set has 5 different surfaces within one circle. basically you unzip the layers til the needed surfaces are exposed. The Profoto sets don’t have a combo kit in the line-up.

So why buy?

Notice at the beginning of the article, I mentioned it’s easy for your assistant to hold.  Using both handles, you can’t really shoot. However, the stability of these reflectors lets you hold them with one hand. Kinda.

You can, however, still use your reflector holders as the edges still fit the same slots as all of the rest out there.

One point I couldn’t resolve was that the translucent reflector really works best, when held in place with 2 hands. When you use a standard reflector holder, you will get that holders crossbar blocking some of the light, and to be fair, that happens with all of them. Except Sunbounce, but that’s a different conversation.

If you do not own reflectors, you should definitely consider these well made units. From $79 -$119. they are the higher priced spread but you’ll never need to buy reflectors again.

If you already have a set, consider replacing your raggedy ones with these

Here they are, in use:
