I Know, It’s Only Rock N Roll…..

but I Like it, Like it, Yes I DO !

Jim Marshall has photographed some of the most iconic rock and roll images of our time.
From the Beatles at Shea Stadium, Hendrix in his classic stance, Janis Joplin in repose avec bottle, Jim Morrison sucking up a smoke, Johnny Cash flipping you off, Miles Davis in the boxing ring, John Coltrane chillin, and the list continues.

As a very young 72 year old, he has produced a body of work that speaks for a generation.
Last night at the Duncan Miller Gallery, many of them showed up. A great mix of old rockers, and new fans. Those that are still in awe of the masters, and those that were at their concerts.

What separates this exhibit from other rock and roll shows is the fact these were all limited edition platinum prints. The brush strokes of emulsion applied to the paper will assure each images’ uniqueness.
Silver Gelatin prints are also available at a reduced price.

The quiet reverence of the showing, shown here in the Jimi Hendrix photograph, brings a respect to an era of the richest popular music in the last century.

The gallery is hidden behind a bougainvillea cloud, in a family neighborhood that you would never imagine holds the photographic treasures inside.
A velvet rope, a clipboard, and darkened entry way greeted all who attended the opening.
Is that 80’s, 90’s or now?
Sure isn’t 60’s.
Thanks to the good folks at Bang and Olafson for sponsoring this event and appropriately so. Who better to support a music oriented photographic exhibit than a company that makes some of the finest listening equipment in the world. Not inexpensive, but the best.
Support of the arts is critical to its’ success so kudos to them.
Yep, the times they are-a changing.

Now from the respectful viewing of the iconclastic kings and queens of rock, we went to the Hammer Museum for another side of Rock and Roll.

The new deal.
Now the Afternoons were amazing and

the Tokyo Police Club did the job, but the contrast of the night was just not music we heard. It was the music we felt.
From an independent gallery, to a high end museum, everyone was digging the beat.
A good night in LA.
